Abortion, What Women Deserve

Introduction
Picture this, a young woman recently discovered that she was pregnant, carrying a soon to be child, forcing her to drop out of her education or possibly her career & it’s her worst nightmare come to life. Luckily she can always go to the hospital and make an appointment for an abortion, so she thinks, however thanks to the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, she no longer has the opportunity to even consider getting an abortion simply because of what state she lives in. Nothing she can do will change the newly formed law, so unless she moves to an entirely different state that allows abortions, she will stay burdened with a child she never wanted.

Importance of Abortion
Some people argue that, ‘if you aren’t ready for children, you shouldn’t be having unprotected sex!’ What they won’t consider is the fact that there are many reasons why a woman wouldn’t want a child. She could’ve been sexually assaulted by a stranger, or even worse a family member. There are many cases of sexual assault on women per year, those women have a chance of getting impregnated by force, so obviously they would want to abort the child. Nearly 80% of the women that were attacked were under or at the age of 25, just 2 years older than a college graduate. So just imagine that, getting assaulted while possibly in college and all of a sudden having a new responsibility atop of her studies and not to mention the financial aspects of college. Even in a rather hopeful scenario that a woman did want the child in the start, there could be complications that occur during the trimesters. There are multiple things that could happen to a woman while pregnant.

Health Concerns
Simply being older in age could be an issue when it comes to child birthing. Problems with the placenta or umbilical cord, high blood pressure, infections, birth defects, or lifestyle choices could result in a stillbirth, death of the fetus. The birthing process is an ordeal to any woman, some women suffer through a risk of a severe birthing problem that could’ve taken their lives if emergency care wasn’t taken in time. Abortion could be that woman’s only chance at staying alive. Some women won’t make it through their birthing process and they have the option to consider aborting to stay alive and try again in the future. There’s been arguments regarding the fact if pregnancy itself is more dangerous to a woman than having an abortion to begin with. From 2019 to 2020, where medical advancements have been made, there’s been an increase of nearly 100 women dying from childbirth alone. “The surest path to having healthy babies is ensuring healthy and willing mothers. We must fight to keep the rights to pregnancy-related decisions solely among those who bear the consequences.”

Availability Within the States
With the new law regarding abortions, only certain states allow abortions and the other half don’t. There are currently 12 states that allow abortions, 25 states are relatively restrictive regarding it, and the remaining 13 ban it completely. Despite the fact these states may not allow abortions to happen, women are still allowed to fly to another state for an abortion so long as they aren’t too far into their pregnancies, seeing that it would be unsafe for them to be flying. There is no such law that prohibits a pregnant women from leaving to get an abortion elsewhere. Although moving to an entirely new state is a problem she would need to overcome as well.
